Hello World

Hello World.png

It’s been a little over two months since we’ve roamed the streets. Favorite past times become digital Facetimes, eating out is non-existent, and clapping at 7pm with your neighbors is the most interaction with “strangers” we’ve had since living in our apartments. Now that we’re in quarantine mode, accidentally clicking on someone’s live story is barely unavoidable. We can’t help but tune into each other’s lives digitally. With this new normal, we delved into our hobbies, things that piqued our interest, and decided to tackle all the (indoor) activities we never had time for. Come meet us below!

Why are you contributing to Night Snack Club?

With Covid-19 happening and our world changing in the blink of an eye, it feels like community is ever more so important. Although I’m often a bit of a lone wolf, this pandemic brought upon a sudden desire to reach out and check in with people, and to be engaged in helping the community in some way. Seeing essential frontline workers risking their lives to help and serve us inspired me to use whatever skill sets I may have to engage with my community and hopefully be of help or solace.

In addition, some of us have found ourselves without jobs and with more time on our hands. Released of our professions that define most of our lives, who are we? And who can we become? Maybe Night Snack Club can be an experiment and exploration of our identities. I hope that we can engender an open, welcoming space to share and inspire creativity and care.

What were you up to before COVID-19?

I had been freelancing as a graphic designer in NYC before getting booked to work in Portland for a couple of months. COVID hit while I was in Portland, and I’ve stayed here since. While in NYC, going to the farmer’s market was my usual jam. I love cooking big pots of soup and making essential oil blends. Yes, I’m a 75-year-old stuck in a 35-year-old body.

Zodiac sign/Element/Chinese Zodiac?

I’m a Wood Ox, Sun in Pisces, Ascendant in Gemini, and Moon in Aries.

Why are you contributing to Night Snack Club?

To  challenge myself and to fill up the recent void of a job. This pandemic has left me with a lot of time, and a bunch of things I want to try. Am I avoiding the stillness of doing nothing? Absolutely, but instead of turning myself into a couch potato, I can try a bunch of stuff, fail, possibly learn, and document some of it here.

What were you up to before COVID-19?

Living your average 60 hour work week, stressed but exhilarated, in NYC. Spent a lot of time in kitchens preparing desserts.

Why are you contributing to Night Snack Club?

I like bringing together like minded people with things I’m passionate about. It usually starts with a conversation, and flows into time spent jogging together and usually evolves into a dinner party. I love learning through creating. Whether it’s through digital design or floral arrangements, I believe art connects us in mysterious ways. I hope Night Snack Club will inspire, share, and keep the energy alive for folks during this time.

What were you up to before COVID-19?

Eating at BOKY (Chinese & Vietnamese no-frills noodle spot) almost every weekend and working at Squarespace making digital products.

Zodiac sign/Element/Chinese Zodiac?

The more I grow into certain aspects of my life, the more I resonate with both my signs. My Chinese zodiac is the Fire Rabbit: pretending is not my strong suit as I wear my heart on my sleeves. As far as my Gemini tendencies: I can whip up a plethora of ideas and things to do off the bat. My inner neurosis keeps me busy so I rarely have down time though I will recharge every now and then by becoming a recluse for a couple of days. I would say if you’re ever in a long distance relationship with me it won’t feel like one. Also if we’re friends, FaceTime is the norm in our relationship.
